Trending Paint Colors 2016

Trending Paint Colors 2016Dark is the New Neutral

Inspired by fashion runways, dark colors are now making their way to home decor for the top trending paint colors 2016. “Confident dark colors have re-emerged on fashion runways after years of gray and brown dominating, says Nautica At Home VP of Merchandising Vivien Sylvester. These trending colors have now translated into home decor in a smart and stylized fashion.”

When Nautica announced the top trending paint colors 2016, they were unexpected colors that encourage stepping out of the comfort zone, daring consumers to be bold in selecting color.

These dark colors can add instant glamour to your surroundings. For a modern look, pair your new deep hues with metallic furnishings.

Specifically, what does “dark” mean? Deep navy, gray, brown and even black are all on Nautica at Home’s recommended list. Just don’t forget to mix in some ivory and cream to offset those deep hues. The depth created by pairing dark colors with whites, grays and golds makes for crisp contrasts. Sounds lush!

A few months ago I worked with Nautica At Home on a painting project that featured a bright aqua blue. I’m gonna need to get used to the idea of dark hues before I’m brave enough to try this new trend. Do you have any dark colors in your decor? What do you think of them?

Event Space Re-Opens in Minneapolis

FIVE Event CenterIt’s exciting when the city adds a new event venue. FIVE Event Center isn’t new, exactly, but it is completely remodeled as of January 2016 and now open for weddings and events. The uptown Minneapolis event center hosted my junior year sorority spring formal, so I was excited to see what changes had been made since. The following post is also found on Minneapolis Happening.

FIVE Event Center Re-Opening

FIVE Event Center

FIVE Event Center’s name hails from the building itself, built in the late 1800s as the home of Minneapolis’ fifth police precinct. The venue first opened a decade ago as a restaurant, then re-branded as an event space. Since coming under new ownership in 2015, FIVE Event Center is now a fully remodeled and expanded venue.

The event space’s renovations are projected to better serve the needs of its clientele searching for a modern, chic event space. Kelsey Knudson, the venue’s event coordinator, is most excited about the expanded capacity for 225 guests and the new neutral color palette that will allow clients to bring their own aesthetic vision to life at FIVE.

FIVE Event Center Renovations

The lower level features a bar area, coat room and bathrooms. A curving stone staircase carries guest up to the modern and spacious upper floor. The fixtures have been updated to include both modern globe lighting and more traditional, elegant chandeliers. An open floor plan replaces its former booth-style seating, with plenty of room to accommodate a dance floor and a second bar.

FIVE Event Center Open House

Knudson says there is some booking availability left in 2016.

Benefits of Grain Free Pet Food

Benefits of grain free pet foodI eat as healthy of a diet as I can for myself, and as a pet owner I also try to feed my fur babies the best food. For some pets, this means grain free. This type of diet is closest to what they would eat in the wild.  An otherwise healthy dog or cat probably doesn’t need a grain free diet, but for some pets there are benefits of grain free pet food.

Benefits of Grain Free Pet Food

Okay, there’s really no way to talk about this without going there, so I will. My cat eats grain free because she was having tummy issues. The kind I don’t like talking about on my blog. Some pets are just sensitive and do better avoiding grains, and she seems to be one of them.

Read more about the benefits of grain free pet food, and how to introduce your pet to to the diet here. Your vet is also a great resource for guiding you toward the best diet for your pet.

Canned Food

Tiki Cat Gourmet Carnivore is my favorite grain free canned food for kitties so far. It’s free of the fillers and thickeners found in almost every brand. The ingredients include quality meats and olive oil. It sounds unbelievable, but when you open a can it actually smells kind of good. The texture is a watery (no thickeners, remember?) mix of shredded meat or fish in gravy. So it depends on what your kitty prefers. Mine is a big fan.

The only ingredient in the list I don’t love is dextrose anhydrous, a sweetener. I don’t know why this seemingly unnecessary additive is present in such a pure product, but the ingredients list is good otherwise. Chewy.com provided me with this product for review.

Other Food Options

Raw food and freeze dried raw food are other grain free diet options. Dry food in grain free versions is available too, and Taste of the Wild is one of the most cost effective options I’ve found. Yup, grain free is more expensive, but when you are really seeing benefits of grain free pet food it sure seems worth it.
