I know what you need-a stylish accessory to freshen your look for summer! Slim elastic headbands, perfect for festival season, are the wonderfully updated style of the moment. And I’ve partnered with Dauphines of New York to showcase exactly that in today’s style post and giveaway.
I love styling headbands to go with outfits as much as any Blair Waldorf fan, but I don’t wear them often. Mostly this is because many of them are just so uncomfortably tight. I was excited to find that Dauphines headbands are adjustable, which means no more relying on one-size-fits-all styles. Make them as comfortably loose or securely tight as you wish. This feature also makes styling headbands easy. You can wear them low on the forehead or high above the hairline as you choose on any given day. Step into spring style
For this shoot I worked with the talented photographer of Adam Wold Photography. Check out his work which includes diversity from landscapes to portraits. Together we explored downtown Minneapolis’ slushy, not-quite-spring streets.
For this look I wanted to do a transition to spring, which as my northern readers know can pose a challenge when it’s still sloppy, wet and windy outside (If you live someplace where there isn’t still snow on the ground today, consider yourself lucky).
We played around outside in downtown Minneapolis at dusk, then finished up shooting inside the Minneapolis City Hall building.
How to Start on Spring Style
These are the style points I rely on as spring approaches but the weather is still cool:
- Ditching the down parka for a lighter, throw-it-on-and-go jacket. Everyone sing “Let it Go” with me: “I’m freeee!”
- I keep wearing my go-to leggings and tights to keep warm, but add shorter lengths and springlike details to the top layers of my outfit.
- Daring to wear pumps and short booties instead of weatherproof boots every.single.day.
- Remembering what colors are! Pastels are about to be really big this season, so now is as good a time as any to start experimenting with them.

Nordic knits and a lot of ice
The Ice Castles MN are closing for the season March 7. I’ve so enjoyed working there with Tiny Diva Princess Party and visiting for photo shoots, but it’s hard to be too sad because this means temperatures are climbing and spring is around the corner. For my last wintery outfit post, I had to share this Nordic knits ice castle outfit.
While icy blue pastels look gorgeous on against the ice, the Norwegian red really pops in front of those blues.
So where do you get such an authentic knit sweater? I inherited this one second hand, so my knowledge of shopping for Nordic knits was limited. Short of flying to Norway to buy one or knitting one yourself, Dale of Norway seems to have some cute options for Nordic knits and they sell on Zappos. For more affordable but less authentic Nordic inspired sweaters, there are plenty available like the ones from this post.

Working at the Ice Castles is definitely one of the things I’ll miss most about winter, but I also look forward to not freezing when I take my blog pictures outside!

Ice Castles Minnesota
Late Winter Fun at the Ice Castles
Temps are finally warming up a little bit, so it’s time to take advantage of all things winter before they disappear. If you haven’t had the chance to see them yet. Ice Castles Minnesota have extended their open dates through March 14th, so there’s still time to get out there. (Not from the Twin Cities? There are also castles in New Hampshire, Vermont and Utah!)
The ice castles are build with icicles, so it looks rustic and natural. It’s not a palace made of ice blocks-it has an organic feel with a waterfall and tunnels and slides for the kids.
The ice castles are a great photo opportunity all around. I’ve seen some amazing senior photos and family portraits done here. A young lady was getting Quincenara photos taken. She looked amazing in her Elsa-blue gown, but bare shoulders in 20 degrees? No thanks! I went with an ice blue coat and jumbo scarf instead.
Picture yourself here! A great photo opportunity to play Queen of the ice castles by sitting on the ice throne! (Caution: cold. Duh.)
Other small fun details are fun to discover, like Elsa and Anna frozen into an ice sphere!
Or if Superman is more your thing, he’s trapped in ice too.

International Badge Day
International Badge Day Attire
International Badge Day is a time to celebrate sorority membership by wearing our badges (every sorority has their own pin called a badge). As an alumna member, Badge Day is one of my few excuses a year to wear my pin. Every time I take it out of its box it reminds me of so many meaningful moments from my college and alumna years.
One of the best things about membership in an international organization like the National Panhellenic Council is being linked to amazing women around the world. To have one day a year when everyone wears their pins really emphasizes the reach of that network. What a cool idea to think of thousands of sorority women around the world wearing their pins at the same time! It would be fun to find another sorority member on Badge Day in an unexpected place by seeing her pin, but that hasn’t happened to me yet.
Skies may be blue, but there is still snow on the ground! My badge attire this years includes a cozy cotton sweater dress, sorority print scarf and boots (details below). I’m looking forward to to things: spring, and making more memories with my sorority membership!
